Analysis of the open sequence of The Shinning
The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrik. The opening sequence of this film starts of by showing a long shot of the location then zooming in very slowly. The camera angle changes to a birds eye view following a car that on the road. This creates tention for the audience, it gets them thinking and wondering whats going on? Why is the car being showed? Is anything going to happen to the car or the driver?
Camara shots and Music
The use of close up shots, birds eye view and extreme long shots were used in this opening sequence. These camera shots gave the viewers a good observing of the surroundings. The sound used created a suspicious thinking, there was alot of silence then loud sounds Petrifying the audience, getting them curious about whats going to happen and building a suspence which will keep the audience anxious.
Characterisation
The scence is set in the middle of nowhere. As the car is being followed from an birds eye view in the middle of nowhere and the only car on this road, it gives an impression of being segregated.
Editing
They used cuts a few times during the opening sequence to show a different location.
Credits
The font size of the credits is written bold so its readable and is positioned in the centre of the screen. I think it was a good idea for the writing to be in the coulor blue because it goes with the astomphere of the surrounding.
